What software do I need to use the content at this site?

In order to borrow and use a specific format of digital media, you must download and install the appropriate software.

For Adobe PDF eBooks, Adobe Digital Editions is available for desktop and laptop computers. For more information on Adobe Digital Editions, click here.

Mobipocket Reader is available for desktop and laptop computers with Microsoft Windows® operating systems, Smartphones, Pocket PCs, and Palm® OS PDAs. For more information on Mobipocket Reader, click here.

OverDrive Media Console (for OverDrive WMA Audiobooks) is available for desktop and laptop computers with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Windows Mobile operating systems. For more information on OverDrive Media Console, click here.

Can I download a title multiple times during the checkout period?

Omaha Public Library maintains a history of borrowed digital materials called 'Checked Out'. During the lending period, you can re-download from the Checked Out feature by clicking on the 'Checked Out' link in the Your eAccount section. To reach the Your eAccount section, click the 'Your eAccount' link and enter the required login information.

What happens to downloaded titles once I have finished with them?

Downloaded files remain on your computer (even after they have expired) until you manually delete them. The steps to delete expired files vary by format…

To delete an expired Adobe eBook…

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Select the 'Library View' icon (in the upper left corner).
    The Adobe Digital Editions Library is displayed.
  3. Under the 'Bookshelves' heading, select 'Borrowed'.
  4. Click the desired eBook.
  5. Click the 'Item Options' arrow (in the upper left corner of the selected eBook).
  6. Select 'Delete Item'.
  7. Click 'Delete' to verify that you want to delete the title.
    The eBook is deleted from Adobe Digital Editions.
  8. The next step varies depending on what operating system you have…
    If you have Windows 7 or Windows Vista, go to Documents > My Digital Editions and delete any copies of the eBook saved in this folder.
    If you have Windows XP, go to My Documents > My Digital Editions and delete any copies of the eBook saved in this folder.
    If you have Mac OS, go to Documents > Digital Editions and delete any copies of the eBook saved in this folder.
    The eBook is deleted from your computer.

To delete an expired Mobipocket eBook file using Mobipocket 6…

  1. Open Mobipocket Reader and select the 'eBooks' screen.
  2. Right-click on the eBook you wish to delete and select 'Delete'.
    The 'Mobipocket Reader' dialog box is displayed and prompts you to confirm that you want to delete the title.
  3. Click 'OK'
    The title is deleted.

To delete an expired Mobipocket eBook file using Mobipocket 4 or 5…

  1. Open Mobipocket Reader and go to File > My Library.
  2. Locate the eBook you wish to delete. Click the 'Properties' link below the eBook. A dialog box displays information about the eBook.
  3. In the dialog box, click the 'Delete' button.
    The title is deleted.

To delete OverDrive titles using OverDrive Media Console…

  1. Open OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Select the item you wish to delete in the 'Media Library'.
  3. Click the 'Delete' button.
    The title is deleted.

To delete OverDrive titles using OverDrive Media Console for Android…

  1. Open OverDrive Media Console for Android.
  2. Select the item you wish to delete in the 'Library'.
  3. Select Menu > Delete and click 'Yes' to confirm.
    The title is deleted.

To delete OverDrive titles using OverDrive Media Console for BlackBerry…

  1. Open OverDrive Media Console for BlackBerry.
  2. Select the title you want to delete in the 'Library'.
  3. Select Menu > Delete and click 'Yes' to confirm.
    The title is deleted.

To delete OverDrive titles using OverDrive Media Console for iPhone…

  1. Open OverDrive Media Console for iPhone.
  2. Select the 'Edit' button in the 'Library'.
  3. Select the red button next to the title you want to delete.
    The 'Delete' button is displayed.
  4. Select the 'Delete' button.
    The title is deleted.

To delete OverDrive titles using OverDrive Media Console for Windows Mobile…

  1. Open OverDrive Media Console for Windows Mobile.
  2. Select the item you wish to delete in the 'Media Library'.
  3. Click Menu > Delete and click 'Yes' to confirm.
    The title is deleted.

Can I use the materials I check out from this site on multiple computers?

This depends on the format…

  • If you are using Adobe eBooks…
    Adobe Digital Editions does not allow borrowed titles to be transferred to multiple computers. However, if you activate Adobe Digital Editions using an Adobe ID, you are able to download a single Adobe eBook on up to 6 computers that have been activated using the same Adobe ID.

  • If you are using Mobipocket eBooks…
    You can read Mobipocket eBooks on 3 machines. You need to install Mobipocket Reader on any machine on which you intend to read a Mobipocket eBook. You must then register a Mobipocket PID at this site for each machine on which you intend to read a Mobipocket eBook.

  • If you are using OverDrive media…
    OverDrive WMA Audiobooks can be downloaded to multiple computers, transferred to supported portable devices, and burned to CD (where permitted by the publisher).

    OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks can be downloaded to multiple computers, transferred to supported portable devices, and burned to CD.

    OverDrive Video can be downloaded to multiple computers and transferred to supported portable devices.

You can download and play OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks on an Android device using OverDrive Media Console for Android. You can also transfer OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks to OverDrive Media Console for Android v1.0 (or newer) using OverDrive Media Console v3.2.0.5 (or newer).

How can I see titles that are available for check out right now?

Use the 'Advanced Search' page. To display all of the titles that are available for check out right now, check the 'Only show titles with copies available' box on the 'Advanced Search' page. To visit the 'Advanced Search' page, click here. Note that you can use 'Advanced Search' to further narrow your search, by Subject or Format, for example.

What is an enhanced title?

Enhanced titles are accompanied by supplemental material provided by the publisher. Once you have checked out an enhanced title, you will be able to download the title as well as the supplemental material. Enhanced titles are clearly labeled with the designation '[ENHANCED]'. An enhanced title only counts as a single checkout.

How can I tell the format of the supplemental file that comes with an enhanced title? How will I know what software I need to use it?

The file format of the supplemental file is indicated at the title details page (click the link '[ENHANCED]'). Additionally, the file format is recapped on the Checked Out page. At the Checked Out page, you'll also find a link to the download instructions for the software required to use the supplemental file.
